Empowerment of women

Entrepreneurship is a real lever for fighting poverty and promoting inclusive growth.

Hirondelle de l’Avenir supports and promotes a new generation of African women who create inspiring leadership and positively influence the future of the continent. The Women’s Empowerment Program is committed to unlocking the potential of African women at all levels of civil society. This is why Hirondelle de l’Avenir has been piloting a Women’s Empowerment Program in Zambia with Mangwee since 2020 in order to be able to adapt it to Benin in 2021.

Most young women do not have the start-up capital to start their own businesses. The idea of the Women’s Empowerment Program helps to help women develop their skills and realize their potential.

Promoting women’s access to new economic opportunities is key to tackling the many inequalities they suffer from. This is why Hirondelle de l’Avenir is working with a cooperative of shea butter producers in Atacora.

The choice of Djougou is natural: on the one hand because there are still soils virgin of chemical inputs, on the other hand because there is in this region a shea cultivation unique to Benin.

Indeed, rural women organize themselves by creating cooperatives to improve their quality of life and contribute to the economic development of their community.

The sale of this shea butter to Hirondelle de l’Avenir thus provides them with a significant source of income for the women of the village.

By purchasing our shea whipped cream, whose shea butter is produced by women’s cooperatives, you are participating in responsible trade, respectful of African shea butter producers, which allows them to increase their income and improve their living conditions. This trade promotes local products and helps fight poverty in rural areas.

In addition, it helps producers to penetrate the international market, to develop their production.

In 2020, Hirondelle de l’Avenir brought together 40 producers united in 1 cooperative.
